Vascular Treatments

During vascular treatment, targeted wavelengths allow your treatment provider to minimize redness and treat problem areas without damaging the surrounding skin. As pigmented areas are treated with light, they coagulate and eventually dissipate to reduce redness. Red blood cells and dark areas of pigment are easily targeted and naturally eliminated by the body to restore your natural skin tone.

Avoid sun exposure, tanning and self-tanner on the treatment area for 4 weeks before your appointment.

If you are new to this treatment, please book a "Spot Treatment" at least 24 hours before your appointment (72 hours for skin types 4 to 6).

Port wine stains: a test treatment is required before your first full treatment. Please book a "Spot Treatment" at least 6 weeks before your appointment so your provider can assess how your skin responds.

Port wine stains and hemangiomas require clearance from a medical provider before treatment. Please bring your clearance to your appointment or contact the clinic if you have questions.

AVOID

• Sun exposure. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily.
• Picking the treated area
• Heat, such as hot showers, hot tubs and saunas, for 1-2 days
• Products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic or salicylic acid, or astringents for 1-2 days
• High impact activity (running, jumping, heavy weights) for 3-5 days after leg vein treatments

EXPECT

• Bruising
• Redness
• Swelling
• A "bug bite" look, which usually resolves in 1-2 days
• Treated pigment will turn darker (brown to black) within 24-48 hours
• Treated pigment will flake off the face in approximately 1 week, and off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks

Compression stockings may be worn for 3-5 days after leg vein treatment, if desired. Use gentle, non-irritating products after facial vein treatments; we’re happy to help you choose them.

What is it?

Vascular treatments use the Cutera excel® V+ laser system to target visible veins, broken capillaries, redness and other vascular concerns.

What does it treat?

A broad array of vascular concerns, including visible blood vessels, broken capillaries, angiomas, venous lakes, port wine stains, hemangiomas and some pigmentation. Port wine stains and hemangiomas require clearance from a medical provider before treatment.

How does it work?

Laser energy is absorbed by the targeted vessels, which coagulate and are then naturally cleared by the body over the following weeks.

What is the procedure like?

We use a cooling handpiece to keep you comfortable throughout. Most patients describe a quick snapping sensation, and the treatment is generally well tolerated.

How many treatments?

Most patients need 1-6 treatments, spaced 4-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments and the spacing depend on the area being treated and the type of vessel or lesion. Facial vessels usually clear faster, while leg veins need more time between sessions. Your provider will map out your plan with you.

How long does a treatment last?

Results are long lasting, with optimal results appearing several weeks following treatment. New vessels can form over time, so some patients choose occasional maintenance.

What can I expect after treatment?

How quickly you’ll see results depends on the type and severity of your vascular concerns and the treatment plan selected for you. You may see immediate improvement, or it may take several weeks before full results become apparent.
