No two scars are the same, so no two scar plans are the same. A red surgical scar, a pitted acne scar and a dark mark left after a breakout each need a different approach. With 11 lasers and devices in the clinic, Amanda can match the treatment to your type of scar, your skin type and your goals, and often combines more than one device or treatment in a single plan.

How we plan your scar treatment

• 1. Assess the scar. At your consultation, Amanda looks at the scar's colour, texture, how indented or raised it is, its age and its location, along with your skin type and history.
• 2. Choose the right technology. Redness, texture and pigment are treated with different lasers, so your plan may use more than one.
• 3. Treat in a series. Scars improve gradually over several sessions spaced weeks apart, with home care to support the skin between visits.

Textured, indented or raised scars, including acne scars

Depending on the scar, we may use:

• SkinPen microneedling or Secret RF microneedling
• Pico Genesis FX with the Micro Lens Array (MLA) on the Cutera Enlighten III
• ProFractional or HALO laser resurfacing
• Chemical peels

Red or pink scars, including newer scars

Pigmented scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Dark marks left after breakouts, injury or inflammation can be treated with Pico Genesis on the Cutera Enlighten III, the Cutera excel V+ and chemical peels, with medical-grade home care to support your results.

Surgical scars

We also treat surgical scars. Surgical scars should be fully closed before treatment. Contact the clinic if you're unsure whether your scar is ready.

How many treatments will I need?
Most scars need a series. The number depends on the type of scar, its age and your skin, and your provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.

Is there downtime?
It depends on the treatment. Some have little to no downtime, while laser resurfacing and fractional treatments can mean several days of redness, swelling or flaking. We'll choose an approach that fits your schedule.

Can older scars be treated?
Yes. Both newer and older scars can be treated, though the approach is different. Newer red scars often respond to treatment for redness, while older textured scars usually need resurfacing or microneedling.

Can darker skin types be treated?
Yes, with the right technology and settings. Your skin type is assessed at your consultation, and a spot test may be done before treatment.
