Michael Black's bio:

Artist Statement:

Light is a living consciousness that permeates all things. It is the essential element that shines through my paintings, transforming canvas and acrylic into an instrument of illumination. By revealing the unity of human existence through the diversity of subject matter, my work becomes a beacon of brilliance, accessible to all.

Black. The absorption and absence of all light and color. And it is within this paradigm that all possibilities exist. From this well of wealth comes every color reborn and revitalized, fresh and powerfully pure. Each color I choose is harnessed for its ocular resonance and compositional harmony. The vibrancy and vitality of colors invigorate the environment of the viewer with a sense of serenity, beauty, warmth, comfort, and equilibrium. Color has amazing therapeutic attributes that affect our physiological, psychological, and spiritual awareness and well-being. Line is the universal language of form and mass, defining all that we see; enabling the creation and articulation of thoughts, emotions, ideas, and visions. In essence, line is a reflection of the artist’s soul: it is the route to the root of existence. Without line, form would truly be formless. The imagery within my paintings is produced with a distinct infrastructure of line, which harnesses and holds the color in place. The resulting textures become a three dimensional entity unto themselves, further enhancing the forms of the subject matter.

Close your eyes. Black. This is where everything begins.
